Hello, I hope you're having a beautiful day wherever you're listening to this episode. This is another one of my early morning episodes. So I don't know when I got back to these early mornings, but I'm really, really loving it.
One of the things I love most about being up, I think I was up around five this morning, is it's still dark because it's winter in Canada at the moment. So it's dark and quiet and peaceful and I just feel like you have a little bit of a head start to your day because the rest of the world is still waking up. And you know, usually I use this time to read or do yoga or whatever it is that I'm feeling is most supportive to me.
And today it was actually recording this podcast and I was just feeling so inspired and excited to hop on and talk about this because I'm all for empowering jewelry business owners to really take their power back in their business. Something I see a lot of business owners do is you know, they let go of the power they have. They feel like they're a victim to whatever is happening in their business to the sales.
They don't realize all the time that they have so much more control over their results than they give themselves credit for. And yes, it's much easier to sit back and say, you know, I've got my jewelry, I've got this, I do like what I need to do. And the sales are what they are because of the economy or this or that.
It's very easy to do that. But it's actually not something I teach my clients to do. I teach them to take their power back.
I teach them to actually decide what sales they're wanting to hit and actually come up with a plan to hit them and make it happen. So I want to remind you that it's not up to your customers to decide if your jewelry is something that they feel like buying. It is up to you as the business owner to give them a reason to want to buy.
This is something I see so many business owners actually rarely struggling with. They just assume having their pretty jewelry with gorgeous photos and nice reels and all this stuff is enough to drive sales in their business and to really see an increase in sales in their business. And they're waiting for the customers to decide if they want to buy the piece or not.
And I want to remind you, you literally have so much more power than you realize in driving sales which pieces are selling, when they are selling. So the other thing I do want to talk about quickly before we dive even more into this is that the way to make people want to buy your jewelry is not by running a sale. So please don't think when you're hearing this, oh okay, I'll make people want to buy by just running a sale or reducing my prices.
No pricing has nothing to do with this. So keep your prices as they are because I can almost guarantee you are underpricing your jewelry based on the hundreds of jewelry businesses that I have looked at. Most of them are underpricing.
Most of them are undervaluing. Especially the businesses that started as a part-time business and then went full-time. They were actually a lot of those type of jewelry businesses underpriced their jewelry because they had a full-time job or they had a part-time job and they were doing their business on the side.
But then when they went full-time they kept the pricing the same and it's just often like they were setting themselves up to really have to try hustle to make it in their business. So definitely don't lower your prices if anything raise them. So I was actually talking to someone about this whole topic yesterday and we were talking about the fact that jewelry business owners often design really dreamy gorgeous pieces of jewelry and they'll launch a new piece or a new collection and then you know on launch day or that week they feel a little bit offended and taken aback when customers aren't just buying it.
It's not just selling out. Maybe you're making some sales but you know it's just not the hype you anticipated. And so typically business owners then start trying to figure out if maybe you know my prices too high as I said definitely not the case.
In 99% of businesses I've seen the prices very rarely too high because you know jewelry is an emotional purchase so you can your prices I'm sure are going to be right but there's a very small percentage of people that have to actually lower them because they've overpriced. Business owners then also start trying to figure out if hey maybe this design isn't as good as I thought it was. You know maybe this piece is not that great.
Maybe this collection is a bit of a flop even though I was so excited about it. Maybe I've done something wrong or it's the wrong materials. I need to switch from like gold plated to gold full or I need to switch from like polymer clay to something else and so they'll start questioning everything that they've done with that collection.
They'll also start questioning if maybe like nobody really appreciates handmade jewelry anymore. Nobody appreciates small business pieces. Maybe they're telling themselves the story that oh you know we're going into a recession so people aren't buying.
All of this there are so many stories that business owners start telling themselves when they see this and something that someone told me well someone said to me a few times actually is that we suffer more in imagination than reality. So when you are going over all these different reasons why your pieces aren't selling or why your collection's not doing well you are rarely suffering so much more in your imagination than you are in reality. So try not to spiral in that way and try not to like over question everything.
There is a balance obviously you do want to look at like feedback from launches and feedback from what's doing well and say like do I need to make changes but you know typically when you're seeing this situation where you've launched a new piece or a new collection and it's gorgeous and it's unique or whatever it is or even if it's a simple gold chains you know there's hundreds of thousands of those out there but if you launch you should still be making sales so if you are experiencing this where your launches just aren't as good as you anticipated then questioning the price and the design and if people still want to buy jewelry or handmade jewelry whatever it is then I just want to remind you to get out of your head there and earn and look at this from a different perspective. Typically when a design isn't really driving sales it's not a pricing problem it's not a design problem it's not a competitor problem there's not too many competitors out there it's a connection problem and if you follow me on Instagram you know I talk about connection all the time it is such a big topic and if you're not following me you can go ahead and follow me I'll drop my Instagram here for you it is Robinclat coaching because I do talk about this a lot on social media because it's it's something that so many business owners struggle with and it's something that's really so simple but if you're able to fix the connection problem you will fix the sales symptom so this is something a lot of people don't realize that when you're launching a new piece or new collection and the sales aren't as high as you anticipated it's actually just a symptom of a deeper problem the sales is sales high sales low sales whatever it is is a symptom of what you're doing in your business so if you're getting high sales great that's a symptom of doing things effectively and having the right systems and strategies in place sales are lower sales are dropping sales are plateauing that's a that's a symptom of a problem so when you have that connection problem you really want to deep dive and fix that and one of the things I do in the Dory Business Academy is I give my clients the exact launch strategy framework to actually be able to create content that drives connections and sales on a launch day when you're launching a new piece when you're launching a new collection and they get the step by step journey that they take their customers on through this framework it is something that is replicable so for future launches and sales and promos they have those steps they know exactly what to be doing and they're going to know they know exactly what to post they know exactly how to structure their posts and they feel really confident in their content creation process leading up to the launch and clients within the Dory Business Academy have shared how they didn't realize how much control they really had over which jewelry pieces are actually being bought and when and it's been quite phenomenal to watch them take their power back in their business I've seen clients master the strategy and sell out slow moving designs from one piece of strategic and connection content alone I've seen clients sell out all of the pieces in their collection that were not moving for over two years selling I think it was 60 or 70 pieces out of 75 something along those lines and that was all within three four days and those are all pieces that were being considered like just being cut and just discarded of so when we put this strategy in place in this client's business we actually saw really incredible results and what I loved was seeing the energy and enthusiasm that comes back into these business owners when they recognize that wow I had the power all along I had the power to help people connect to these pieces I had the power to actually drive sales and it's actually really fun to start saying like oh you know which pieces do I really want to sell this week and utilizing this framework and this strategy and driving those sales and seeing the results for the work and time and energy that you're putting in so you know here's the thing when the connection content that you post really drives sales within minutes it becomes a part of your business that you love a part of your business that really energizes you and I want to remind you that strategic content creation that connects to your customers gets to be fun and it should actually be driving sales it should be visibly driving sales so if you are curious to know if maybe your content isn't connecting with your community and maybe it's slowing down your sales or plateauing your sales you can reach out to me either on Instagram as I said it's Robin Clark coaching or you can go to my website it is jewelrybusinessacademy.ca and book in a free connection call with me those calls as I've mentioned I only do 12 per month so fill in the application form in as much detail as possible as I simply cannot get on the call with everybody and we'll see if your business is a good fit for the program and if it is in fact a connection issue that you are dealing with and we'll go from there so thank you for joining me today in this short and sweet episode as I mentioned if you did enjoy it I'd love to hear from you on Instagram so go ahead and tag me on your stories with the screenshots of the episode and I'm looking forward to chatting to you next week
