Hello and welcome back. It's so good to have you here today. And I am diving into a topic which I think is incredibly important for all business owners.

And it's something that I see a lot. You guys know I talk to so many Jory business owners every single week. And this is actually something that I see coming across from many business owners at different stages of their business.

And that's all about burnout. And a lot of people blame burnout on their business or all these things out of their control. But what I've seen a lot of the time is it's our iPhones that are leading us to burnout.

And obviously, everybody's situation is different. But almost every business owner that I have spoken to has one thing in common. And that is really their use of their iPhone and the boundaries around their iPhone.

And so I'm going to keep this episode short and sweet because I want you to really be able to grasp what I'm saying and then go and take action and really go implement these new boundaries into your life and see if it helps you and see if it makes you feel more energized. So when it comes to everything that we do in our business, everything that we do is either really connective or it's compulsive. So you really want to think about what are you doing in your life? What are you doing in your business? Are you doing things intentionally strategically? Or is it just a compulsive act that you've just got used to doing? And it's coming from boredom, not knowing what to do.

So you're just going to hop on your phone and scroll. Where are the actions that you're doing every day? Where are the habits that you're doing every day coming from? Is it really intentional? Like for example, something that's intentional will be meditating every day. You know, that's very generally something that's very intentional.

It's very strategic. Going for walks every day is very intentional. Things generally when we hop on our phone and just scroll pretty much all the time it's compulsive unless you have a set intention behind, I'm going to open up my phone for the next 10 minutes and I am going to reply to DMs or I am going to post a reel or I am going to do this.

If you are opening up your iPhone and you know exactly what it is you're going to be doing and you have a time limit, that's really beneficial. That's really intentional. That's really strategic.

But if you're opening up your phone just impulsively without really thinking about it and you suddenly like register a few minutes in or half an hour in or an hour in like, oh, I've been scrolling TikTok or Instagram for a such a long time and I just keep opening all the apps that go from Instagram to TikTok to my email, back to Instagram. You know, you want to look at number one, how do you feel when you do that? Because I know myself when I found myself in those spirals, it's like, you just feel tired, you feel overwhelmed, you feel stressed, you feel not good enough sometimes, it depends on the accounts that you're following. So you want to stop and think like, how often are you doing that? If you're doing that on a daily basis, that is going to lead to burnout very quickly.

And how are you feeling after scrolling? So you want to take all of these different things into accounts. You also want to look at like, what is your relationship with your phone? Are you addicted to your phone? Because so many people in today's world are addicted to their phones, especially business owners, because you know, our phone houses everything it has as a social media, you probably have access to your website there, emails, everything that you need to run your businesses on your phone. But because it's on our phone, and because we also have our friends and family on our phone, we do have to have really clear boundaries with ourselves.

Because your phone, especially social media, is going to give you all these dopamine hits. It's really, really addictive. And it's been developed to be addictive, especially TikTok and Instagram.

The algorithm is set up to keep you on there, to keep you just going through one more video, one more reel, one more piece of content, and it's going to keep giving you those dopamine hits. And so it's actually, it takes so much discipline to remove yourself from that. And so if you're listening to this and you're recognizing like, oh my goodness, you know what, I know I scroll on my phone every day, especially a lot of business owners will scroll in the evening when they're in bed the last hour or so before bed, because it's kind of just their way of checking out and like, just doing something before going to bed.

And it feels like this is me time, but it's actually, it's just compulsive. It's not necessarily going to make you feel better after scrolling for an hour or so. It's not going to make you feel more grounded.

It's not going to make you feel calm. It is going to make you feel overwhelmed and stressed and just agitated and irritated and annoyed. You know, I know for myself, if I'm scrolling on my phone for too long, I'm just, I just get frustrated with things that day.

I just have a day where I feel irritable and annoyed at everything that's going on. And so you really want to, number one, look at your iPhone. Look at, you can even write a list actually, write out a list of the really valuable things that you get to do on your iPhone and how it supports you in your business and how it supports you in your personal life.

Then you want to look at the things that don't support you on your iPhone and write that out. What are those things that you, that don't really support your highest self and don't support your energy levels and don't support you feeling worthy as an individual and don't support you feeling good? What are those things? Then you want to look at your boundaries around those. So do you just hop on your phone all the time when you're out and about, just keep checking emails, keep checking messages, reply immediately? Or do you have set times in your day and in your week for opening certain apps and doing certain activities? Because that's really, really key to having that balance and preventing yourself from hitting burnouts and also just makes you feel more grounded as a person.

Feel more grounded as a business owner because you have so many different hats that you wear as a jewelry business owner. It's easy to feel overwhelmed if you don't have that structure in place. So it's really important that you have boundaries with yourself in terms of when you're opening messages and emails from customers.

Are you opening them while you're at tea with a friend? Are you opening them while you're at the gym? Are you opening them while you're cooking your dinner? We don't want that. I'm all for work-life integration, but this is not integration. This is just compulsive.

It's addictive and it's not benefiting you or your customers, believe it or not. So you really don't have to check your phone multiple times a day. You can check it once a day.

You can check it twice a day. You can schedule these time blocks into your calendar on a daily basis or just know that your boundary is like, I already checked my phone this many times a day. I spend 10 minutes on there when I'm posting or replying to comments at this time.

Have really, really strict boundaries with yourself in terms of when you're using your phone, which apps you're on and how long you're going to be on there for. Now, obviously, scrolling is also interesting. So if you enjoy scrolling, I mean, I love scrolling through TikTok because I follow accounts that make me feel excited, inspired, motivated.

I'm really particular about what I follow. And so for me, social media is actually really uplifting and motivating. But saying that, it can also be very draining if you're spending too much time on there just because of all those dopamine hits.

So when you open it up to scroll, no, like, okay, this is just scrolling time. I'm going to scroll for 10 minutes. And then I'm going to go and do this next task, which is like not phone related.

I'm going to close my phone, even turn it off if you need to, and then move on with your day. So make sure that you are really intentional when you are scrolling, because it's really, really hard to stop the scroll and get yourself out and into a more productive task or even just to rest and just be without that constant distraction. So I'm going to keep this nice and short and sweet for you.

I'd love for you to do that journaling activity. Really take a look at how you're using your phone, all the tasks that you're doing on a daily basis on your phone. Are they compulsive? Are they intentional and strategic? Do you feel good after doing that? Do you feel good after spending time on your phone? Do you feel like your phone is holding you prisoner? And it's just like, oh, that thing that's just causing so much stress and anxiety in your life.

Take some time to think about it, journal about it, and then implement new boundaries moving forward. Boundaries that are going to support you, support your energy levels, and support avoiding burnout, which is so important. And if you enjoyed this episode, I'd love to hear from you screenshot the episode you're listening to and tag me on Instagram.
